Patients with memory loss may have difficulty understanding the reasoning needed to form coherent language. A weekly individual or group counselling session is often an important part of outpatient drug rehabilitation. Rehabilitation therapists can work together on a patient’s case to coordinate an effective treatment program.
Inpatient treatment
Individual Psychotherapy: The therapy offers comprehensive treatment for various problems. Inpatient treatment is subject to authorization from the Medical Control of Social Security (CMSS). The authorization request must reach the CNS at the latest within three working days of admission to the hospital. Authorization is granted based on a request supported by a detailed medical report which must contain a complete assessment of the patient’s motor and cognitive functions through an FIM instrument (a measure of functional independence) at the time of admission.
- The detailed treatment plan with
- The number and nature of treatment sessions per day and week
The authorization of the CMSS cannot exceed an initial period of thirty days. A maximum of two extensions are possible, each not exceeding 30 days. Inpatient treatment is one of the CNRFR divisions is covered for a maximum of ninety (90) days.
In exceptional cases, additional extensions may be granted based on a prior request and a file to be assessed within the framework of monthly consultation between the attending physician and the CMSS.
Outpatient treatment
Outpatient treatment is subject to prior authorization from the CMSS. Authorization is granted upon request sent by the CNRFR, supported by a detailed medical report containing:
- The diagnosis
- The treatment plan with the detailed number of treatment sessions
- The frequency of application per week
- A motivation justifying the treatment in an outpatient hospital setting
Authorization is granted on the advice of the CMSS for a maximum initial period of two months with the possibility of extending a maximum of two times. These extensions are also subject to prior authorization and are granted according to the same procedure as the initial request. The extension request must contain the updated elements of the initial request. Each extension can be granted for a maximum of two months.
Outpatient treatment is only covered if the treatment is a follow-up to inpatient treatment in a hospital environment the previous year. It is limited to a maximum of sixty days of treatment spread over a continuous period of six months. However, exceptions are possible on the advice of the CMSS.
Outpatient geriatric rehabilitation-Outpatient treatment in a geriatric rehabilitation unit is required prior authorization (APCM). Outpatient geriatric rehabilitation treatment is only covered if the treatment is a follow-up to inpatient treatment in a hospital environment the previous year. An extension of outpatient treatment in geriatrics is not planned.
The authorization request must reach the CNS at the latest within three working days of admission to the hospital. Authorization is granted based on a request supported by a detailed medical report which must contain an assessment of the patient’s motor and cognitive functions through an FIM instrument (measurement of functional independence) at the time of admission.
The detailed medical report must also contain:
- A diagnosis
- The patient’s history,
- The detailed treatment plan with:
- The number and nature of treatment sessions per day and week
- The purpose and expected duration of the processing.
Physical and post-oncological rehabilitation
In addition, the request for inpatient treatment in the national post-oncological rehabilitation service is admissible only if the following conditions are given:
- according to the certificate of the attending physician, the protected person has functional limitations, comorbidities, or an alteration in general condition attributable to cancer or resulting from the therapy pursued;
- The clinical condition of the protected person is stable
- The start date of the requested rehabilitation is three months after the acute therapy for cancer.
